Once a year there is a chance to see the endangered butterfly species, the Pithecops fulgens tsushimanus in Adachi-ku Park of Living Things. They release a few butterflies in their butterfly house for one week for the general public to see. I visited the park again to see the tiny little creatures that can be naturally found only on a small island of Tsushima in Nagasaki Prefecture. This time, even though I knew the butterflies were there I had hard time finding them, which is no wonder as they are tiny with wingspan of only 2 cm and of plain color.

足立区生物園では一年一回絶滅危惧種のツシマウラボシシジミという蝶を見ることができます。１週間の間だけ一般の人の為に蝶が舞う温室にツシマウラボシシジミを何頭かを放ちます。自然の中では長崎県の対馬にしか分布しないこの小さな蝶に会うためにまた駆けつけました。温室の中にいると知っていながら、なかなか見つけるのは難しかったです。開翅は２cmしかない上に地味な色をしているからです。
