Autumn is great time to shoot butterflies. You can find flowers that attract various butterflies and it is getting slightly cooler and hence more bearable to spend time outdoors. I especially like to capture butterflies on cosmos fields and red spider lily fields, that can both be found in central Tokyo.
This week, I spent some time shooting on the cosmos field of Hamarikyu Gardens. Upon arrival I was rather disappointed to see that the typhoon that had recently hit Tokyo, had ruined the cosmos fields. Only few flowers stood strong and straight and the rest were badly bent down. However, they still attracted butterflies, especially the asian swallowtails. I kept shooting for an hour and half until my battery went dead. I had forgotten to bring an extra battery pack so all I could was to leave for the day. I hope to make some time soon to go back, if not earlier, at least when the pink cosmos will also be in bloom, probably in October.
